What do assessments involve?
Assessments are conducted at the AP office and involve the administering of standardized tests such as developmental ability tests, intelligence tests, language ability tests, adaptive behavior tests, social skills inventory, and behavioral checklists. Diagnostic tools may also be used. Tests used depend on the particular purpose of the assessment, skill presentation and age of the individual. Observation in a more natural setting (e.g. school) may also be recommended, particularly for diagnostic clarification.
What are the procedures of the assessment?
Assessment procedures typically follow 3 parts: observation of the individual during free time, administration of tests, and structured interview with the caregivers or parents. The entire assessment may take 3 hours or more, depending on the child’s performance. It can be completed in one session or can be scheduled in more than one day.
What do I need to bring?
The parents/caregivers are recommended to bring along any past reports from previous assessments, schools or therapies. Given the length of the assessment, parents/caregivers are also recommended to bring along some snacks and drinks for the individual.
When can my child be assessed?
Children can be assessed from as early as 10 months.
What are the costs?
Assessments cost between $7,000 to $10,000HKD depending on the type of assessment. The charge is based on approximately 8 to 10 hours of work. Additional charges will be added for school observations. The cost includes a comprehensive written report, which typically consists of 8-12 pages detailing the assessment results, diagnosis, and recommendations. If necessary, a follow up meeting with the psychologist to discuss the report is also included. Click here to check our price list
Confidentiality issues
Information shared during assessments are held in strict confidence. Limitations to confidentiality include instances whereby it is deemed that a child or client is or may be in need of protection as well as instances whereby it is deemed that a child, adolescent and/or adult may be at risk of harming self or others. The individual’s or their parent’s consent, in the case of a child, will be obtained before information is shared with others (e.g. with the case supervisor).

This information is used for the purposes of developing assessment questions or queries, formulating assessment results, and communicating results within the context of the child’s environmental and developmental context. The information contained in client files is confidential and can only be released with the informed consent of the client. Client files are kept secure from unauthorized access. Clients have the right to access information in their clinical file, the right to copies of information in their file, and the right to request corrections.
