AP empowers parents with ABA skills in an intensive training

Parents having a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can be stressful and overwhelming at times. When a child is diagnosed with ASD, parents are often desperate to look for relevant information and get started with treatment. Understanding the need of the parents to get equipped with skills and knowledge, AP organized an intensive 5-day parent training program on August 3 -7. We believe that placing appropriate training in the hands of parents is a vital step in helping children overcome their developmental challenges. Through this parent training program, we also hope to provide interim support for families who are on our waiting list for their turn for the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) treatment.

parent-training_2 Elaine, one of the parents who joined the training, said, “This parent workshop is very practical and provides lots of useful information. I have learned basic ABA skills to help my child to learn new things and also change some of his unwanted behaviors. This workshop helps to make our lives much easier from now on.”

The parent training program was supervised by Clara Poon, Behavior Consultant and conducted by Ray Cheung, Senior Behavior Therapist. A total of four families joined the training program, which comprised of online learning modules, theoretical knowledge, demonstration and hands-on training. Throughout the training program, parents were able to receive feedback from our ABA experts, and engage in direct dialogues with other parents for experience sharing.

“The online learning platform has been adopted in our parent training for the first time. The online modules have been designed to help our parents to gain more information and preparation before the actual training starts. Through the training, we hope to provide the parents the ABA skills and techniques they need to manage their children’s current and potential future behavioral problems”, says Clara Poon.
